Join Sandi on Saturday, November 2 from 10 am-12 noon for “The Wink of Immediacy: The Art of the Short Story,” at Adriance Memorial Library, Poughkeepsie.

Drawing on 2019 NEA Big Read Author Ron Rash’s “Waiting for the End of the Work,” from Burning Bright as a model, this two-hour workshop explores how the short story differs from the novel form, helps potential writers identify appropriate short story ideas, and uses writing exercises to introduce the various narrative elements essential to a short story’s success.

This workshop is open to anyone interested in writing short fiction or learning more about how short fiction works to experience greater enjoyment with reading short stories.  Please bring a pen and paper or a laptop to class.

Sponsored by the Poughkeepsie Public Library School District with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.  There is no cost for the workshop, but preregistration is required.
